These reports and photos are of a road trip from Anaheim, California, to the 2nd Annual Midwest Tesla Gathering in St. Louis, Missouri. My wife and I are doing this trip in our new red 2016 Tesla Model X P90DL. This particular report is of Day 3, a day in Glenwood Springs, Colorado.
Note: This report is a rough draft. I have not yet done a spell check or final edits. Since we are driving this road trip right now, devoting time to driving takes priority. As I get time at our stays along the way I'll make final edits and spelling corrections. But for now, please pardon any errors.
There are many more photos for this day of Tesla travel than could be included in the body of this report. To see ALL of the photos that were taken on this day, click here for the slide show!
In Glenwood Springs we stayed at the Residence Inn by Marriott. This had to be one of the most ideal hotels we had ever stayed at during a road trip. The room was huge and included a full kitchen with full size refrigerator, stove, microwave, and even a dishwasher! Below are some photos of our room:
A couple of things I really liked about the room were the electric outlets everywhere you would need one. This included several by the work desk and one on every lamp including on both sides of the bed. The wireless internet was free and very high speed, though you could pay $4.95 per day to boost it to 3 times the normal speed. They also had a wired connection available and provided the wire. I did use that wire in order to have the best connection possible for the full day of computer work I had ahead of me. I spent much of the day processing the photos and writing the reports for the first 2 days of this Tesla road trip, plus the usual stack of computer tasks I have running my other web sites.
I had to take a photo of the artwork above the sink in the room as it featured a couple sitting in a historic pullman railcar.
The above photos are of the lobby of the hotel. Complementary wine, beer, and appetizers are served Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM. Free coffee is available in the lobby around the clock and a fairly extensive free breakfast is available every morning.
The above left photo is of the outdoor padio of the hotel which features a firepit and a BBQ available to guests. The above right photo is of the computers available to guests.
The above are photos of visitor information that can be found in the hotel lobby.
In the above photos you can see the beautiful setting of this hotel. Our Tesla is also in all of these photos. You may need to use your Where's Waldo? talents to find it in some of them.
I drove our Tesla Model X to the historic Glenwood Springs Train Station to watch the arrival of the Amtrak California Zephyr. Before the train arrived, I took a few photos of our Tesla Model X parked on a road directly above the tracks.
Above are photos of part of Downtown Glenwood Springs. Both buildings in the photos are historic. On the top row, the building on the left is Hotel Denver where we stayed on our previous Tesla road trip though this town. The building on the right in the top row is the Glenwood Springs Amtrak Train Station. Both photos on the second and third rows are the historic train station and platform.
I was able to capture both our Model X and the train in some of the photos.
Breaking News! I discoved in the news the next day that the train that you see in my photos struck a pickup truck in Glenwood Springs just after it left the station. The news story can be found at: http://www.9news.com/news/local/amtrak-train-hits-truck-near-glenwood-springs/225044485
After the train departed, I walked inside the historic Glenwood Springs Train Station and took the above photos.
The Glenwood Raiload Museum inside the train station was open so I went in to take a look and to take the above photos. They have a good collection of railroad artifacts, photos, and other memorabila related to the railroad history of the area. There were two volunteers in the museum and one gave me a very extensive personal tour of everything. Before leaving I made a small donation to the museum. They did mention that the area of the building that housed the museum used to be the ladies' waiting room and the Railway Express Agency office. In the early days of train travel, many stations had a separate waiting room for women. While talking to them I did mention that my Tesla Model X that was parked right out front was filled with 15 banker boxes of passenger rail memorabilia, mostly Amtrak, heading for the APRHF Exhibition of Amtrak History and the APRHF Silver Rails Gallery in La Plata, Missouri.
That evening we went to Trattoria Dionisia Italian Restaurant in downtown Glenwood Springs for dinner. It was an excellent Italian Restaurant! We'll definitely go there again next time through town. We also had a great bottle of Italian wine.
After driving back to the hotel we explored the shopping center that is just past the far end of the hotel parking lot. There were quite a few shops and restaurants there. So, if you don't feel like driving the 2 miles to downtown, you can always just walk to this shopping center and select from one of the restaurants there.
Above left photo shows more of the beautiful scenery surrounding the hotel. Above right photo was taken earlier in the day. You can see we charged the Model X up to 244 miles. That was plenty for what little driving we did around Glenwood Springs and to get to the next Supercharger on Tuesday. Thus, we didn't bother to top off the battery charge overnight.
Tomorrow, Tuesday, we'll be driving from Glenwood Springs to Salina, Kansas. Be sure to check bank for tomorrow's installment of this report!

A bit more than a year ago we traveled almost this exact same route but in our 2015 Tesla Model S P85D. For the report and photos from this segment of the route from last year click here
